Totality
This chart shows the positions of the planets and stars at the time of totality. The Sun is shown at zenith and is marked by a small black cross.
Unlike last year's total eclipse, only the inferior planets are in the field of view. Venus is located to the southeast of the eclipsed Sun near the first-magnitude star Regulus in the constellation Leo. In the opposite direction and at about the same distance, Mercury holds position just south of the two brightest stars in Gemini.
