Obituary : Arvilla Maneval
Arwilla Smith
Arwilla Smith, daughter of John L. Maneval and Susanna Grosemuller Maneval,
was born Feburary 18, 1871, at Williamsport, Pennsylvania and lived there
with her parents during her early childhood. The family moved to Kansas in
1878 and established their home in Centralia. With her brothers and sisters
she attended the Centralia schools. Graduating in 1889 as valedictorian of
her class, she taught schools in Nemaha county for 12 years. She was a
member of the Congregational Church in Centralia. Arwilla was married to
Walter J. Smith May 25, 1889. Walter was a farmer and they lived in the
country several years, later moving into Centralia where they resided seven
years before moving to Salina, Kansas. They returned to Centralia January
1, 1950. After her husband's death on September 16, 1951 she made her home
at Rest Homes among pleasant surroundings, located where she could enjoy
visits from relatives and friends. She passed away in the White Rest Home in
Wetmore, April 16, 1969. She leaves several nieces and nephews and many
friends. The funeral service was held at the Congregational Church,
Centralia, Friday, April 18, with burial in the Centralia cemetery. The
casketbearers were Emet Hightower, Glen Johnson, Frank Poore, Ray Blair,
Earl Roberts and David Ayers.
