Obituary : Juliette P. Hagadone
Mrs. Juliette Mutchie was born in Joliet, Illinois, on July 27, 1862, and
came in early childhood with her parents, Mrs. and Mrs. George Hagadone, to
Plum Creek. She was married to John Mutchie, and to this union four
daughters were born: Florence, Mayme, Agnes, and Margaret. Her husband,
and daughters Agnes and Mayme preceded her in death. A brother, Thomas
Hagadone, lives in Montana. One sister, Mrs. Evelyn Henry, passed away
several years ago, and two brothers, Cy and Pete Hagadone, residents of
Dawson County for many years, died recently. She also had several half
brothers and sisters, seven grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.
Two grandchildren, Vaughn Farley and Dai Gilland, are deceased. Grandma
Mutchie, as she was affectionately called, spent her life doing for others.
Early residents recall that life without her would have been a pretty sad
affair at times, for she could always be counted on when there was illness or
other trouble in a household. She spent most of her life in Lexington, and
was a member of the First Methodist Church. She would have been ninety-one
years old in July. She lived with a companion in her own home until a few
months before her death. When her health became such that she needed the
care of a nurse, she moved to the Platte Valley Care Home where her good
friend and nursing companion, Mrs. Julia Gillett, cared for her. Funeral
services were held at the First Methodist Church on Friday, with Rev. L.R.
Davis in charge. Interment was at Greenwood Cemetery.
